Rock Quarry Wedding, Lanesboro, Minnesota

Rock Quarry Wedding, Lanesboro, Minnesota

August 5, 2020

Cody and I met Matt’s aunt at her property the morning of Megan + Matt’s wedding day. From the driveway, it looked like a gorgeous property full of green land and fields and a few barns. But there was also a hidden secret spot. As she directed us to the ceremony location, the green trees mixed with large rocks and the path started to narrow. As we moved up a curved hill, suddenly we were in a wide open space surrounded by gorgeous exposed rock. We had arrived at Megan + Matt’s abandoned rock quarry ceremony space! Talk about the most unique location for a ceremony, am I right? Cody and I were absolutely taken aback by the beauty of the space and the intimacy it evoked.

Throughout Megan + Matt’s gorgeous rock quarry wedding day, multiple people spoke to their character. Both Megan and Matt were commended multiple times for being thoughtful, caring, servant-hearted, and fun to be around. It was obvious that both Megan and Matt were strongly influenced and impacted by their family members and friends, who all were equally thoughtful and kind. Cody and I couldn’t get over how joyful and helpful everyone was throughout this wedding day! We enjoyed every second of this incredible wedding day, especially our time with the new Mr + Mrs!

The wedding day started and ended at the beautiful Cedar Valley Resort. This place is so dreamy and made the perfect spot for all of Megan + Matt’s family and friends to stay and get ready for the wedding day together. There are gorgeous fields of wild flowers, rustic cabins with porch swings, and you can relax by tubing or canoeing on the nearby Root River. Well, you could maybe relax on the river, however this wedding party had a more eventful tubing trip the day before the wedding, haha! Despite tipping over and getting a few bruises, everyone survived and made it whole to the wedding the next day! When Cody and I arrived to the big cabin, the girls and family members were all gathered and getting their finishing touches of hair and makeup on. The guys had just returned from a morning golfing. Everyone was relaxed and simply eager and excited about the day to come!

Each time the girls would go downstairs to grab something from the guy’s getting ready space, they would come back and tell Megan excitedly how Matt was feeling a little nervous and was so looking forward to seeing her. When it came time for the first look, you could practically see all that nervousness drift away as Matt turned and saw Megan for the first time in her wedding dress. We wandered around the property for their first bride and groom portraits, and then it was time to head to their magical ceremony at the rock quarry!

The pictures speak for themselves about how beautiful this rock quarry wedding ceremony was. Destinee with The Skies the Limit wedding planning helped Megan’s dreams come true with the ceremony and reception decor and planning, even despite venue changes. The real highlight of the ceremony was Megan and Matt’s vow. They brought tears to my eyes as they spoke of their promises to each other and all that they had endured thus far in their relationship. As I looked through the camera lens I noticed I wasn’t alone and almost everyone else was just as moved as I was!

At the reception, we were all tearing up again during speeches! Megan’s dad pulled Cody and I aside before his speech and explained to us that he fully expected he was going to tear up when he was speaking to Megan + Matt. We assured him that we would probably be crying as well and that it was nothing to be afraid of. Well, I don’t think there was one pair of dry eyes during that speech. Their small and intimate reception felt more like a family dinner party. Everyone was included and involved in the event and made to feel like their presence was special and valued.

As Cody and I finished the night with Megan + Matt alone for sunset portraits, we couldn’t get over how amazing the entire day had been. Not only were the photos gorgeous, but more importantly this couple and their love was beautiful. We know that so much good is going to come from Megan and Matt being a team forever! Enjoy our favorite images from their incredible rock quarry wedding day!
