Cody and I met Alli and Nick in Saint Paul near the James J. Hill library for the start of their engagement session and we finished with gorgeous skyline views at Boom Island Park– it was the perfect combination of locations to give a Twin Cities feel to their session. We had all met together previously in La Crosse for their inquiry meeting, where we got to hear all about how Alli & Nick met and became engaged!

Alli & Nick are both incredibly kind and warm people- it didn’t take us too long in that initial meeting to hit it off and talk all about their relationship and their plans for their wedding. We learned that Alli & Nick love spending time outdoors. Some of their favorite things to do together are spending time at local parks, biking, and running!

Alli and Nick both knew they were looking for something serious from the start. Once they had spent more time together, it was evident this was the relationship they had both been waiting for. Nick put together a beautiful plan for the engagement session. He got friends of Alli’s to help out finding the perfect spot outside where he could propose and her friends could capture it all in photographs. Since they loved to spend time outside, Nick decided he would tell Alli they were going on a date through the parks on the rentable scooters from the city.

Well, as happens many times in life, the proposal didn’t go quite as planned! As Alli’s friends had been working to set up the spot and Nick had been preparing for this big moment, the weather was not cooperating. It was rainy and Alli was questioning whether they should change their plans and do something different for their date…because she didn’t know what this date was planned to be! They went back and forth a bit, with Nick trying his best to convince her that yes, this was the best plan for their date night without spilling the beans about the surprise.

Alli became convinced (and likely started to wonder at this point whether something was going to happen on this date) and they found scooters and started their trip. All was good until they reached a bridge between Saint Paul and Minneapolis, and all of a sudden the scooters shut off. Nick had purposely found scooters with full batteries, so it took a minute to figure out that the scooters didn’t work between the two cities. So now Alli’s friends are waiting in Minneapolis and Nick and Alli have no way of getting to the planned spot fast enough. Plus, it is still raining. Poor Nick! This had to be a stressful moment!

They turned back around and found a tree to rest under and Nick tried his best to contact their friends without drawing much suspicion from Alli. There they are, in the rain, waiting, and Alli is wondering why they aren’t just headed home.

Luckily, their friends were able to quickly meet them in this new location, just in time to capture Nick proposing to Alli. While it didn’t go as planned, they loved how the story turned out. We have to agree, it is a beautifully funny story, and it is sure to be one they will remember forever!
